El grupo del cuarzo incluye varios polimorfos de SiO\u2082 como el cuarzo, la cristobalita, la tridimita, la coesita y la estishovita, siendo las dos \u00faltimas fases de alta presi\u00f3n.<br>La composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica te\u00f3rica del cuarzo es 100% SiO\u2082, o Si 46,74% y O 53,26%. El cuarzo natural es relativamente puro, pero puede contener trazas de elementos de impureza como Al, K, Na, Li, Ca, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ti, Cu, Zn, Cr, Ni, B y P debido a la sustituci\u00f3n isom\u00f3rfica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La estructura cristalina de marco abierto del cuarzo (SiO\u2082) resulta en una densidad relativamente baja de 2,65. Sin embargo, los enlaces Si-O en los tetraedros [SiO\u2084] son fuertes, lo que le confiere al cuarzo una dureza de 7 en la escala de Mohs. Entre los minerales asociados se incluyen feldespato, detritos de roca, mica, minerales arcillosos y minerales pesados como el circ\u00f3n, la turmalina, la ilmenita y el anf\u00edbol. Se encuentra principalmente en dep\u00f3sitos de arena sedimentaria marina y lacustre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0182866986b22ac9e6b5941045960942\">Cuarzo gran\u00edtico<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La raz\u00f3n fundamental por la que empresas como la serie IOTA de Sibelco lograron un monopolio internacional en cuarzo de alta pureza radica en su materia prima \u00fanica: cuarzo gran\u00edtico de Spruce Pine, Carolina del Norte, EE. UU. Tras diversos procesos de fabricaci\u00f3n, se utiliza en la industria del vidrio, la fundici\u00f3n, la cer\u00e1mica, los refractarios, la qu\u00edmica, la extracci\u00f3n de petr\u00f3leo, la purificaci\u00f3n de agua, la construcci\u00f3n, las energ\u00edas renovables fotovoltaicas, los semiconductores electr\u00f3nicos, la fibra \u00f3ptica, la \u00f3ptica, las fuentes de luz, los materiales de fibra de alta gama, los rellenos industriales y mucho m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c3b93f9e9af17bd839568e4234cd2eb7\">Aplicaci\u00f3n de mayor volumen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La industria del vidrio es la mayor consumidora de cuarzo, ampliamente utilizado en la construcci\u00f3n, la automoci\u00f3n, las energ\u00edas renovables y el sector m\u00e9dico. Por lo tanto, tan solo el vidrio plano y el fotovoltaico consumieron m\u00e1s de 50 millones de toneladas de arena de cuarzo en 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La demanda posterior proviene de los sectores inmobiliario, automotriz, de electrodom\u00e9sticos, fotovoltaico, de envases de uso diario y de electr\u00f3nica. Hist\u00f3ricamente, aproximadamente 751 toneladas de vidrio convencional (TP3T) estaban relacionadas con el sector inmobiliario; la demanda futura de vidrio convencional crece lentamente debido a la recesi\u00f3n del sector.
