Daarom is kwartszand de belangrijkste minerale grondstof voor de glasindustrie. Het is het hoofdbestanddeel van alles, van vlakglas en verpakkingsglas tot ultrahelder glas, fotovolta\u00efsch glas en zelfs kwartsglas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voor glasfabrikanten bepaalt de kwaliteit van het kwartszand direct de kwaliteit van het eindproduct. Verpakkings- en huishoudglas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Huishoudelijke en verpakte glasproducten omvatten flessen en potten, serviesgoed, laboratoriumglaswerk en farmaceutisch glas. Ze worden gebruikt in de voedingsmiddelen-, dranken-, alcohol- en medische industrie. Kwartszand vormt een groot deel van het mengsel in dit segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omdat het smeltpunt van kwartszand rond de 1730 \u00b0C ligt, heeft de korrelgrootte van het zand een grote invloed op de glasvorming en de smelteffici\u00ebntie. In de praktijk geeft men meestal de voorkeur aan hoekige kwartsdeeltjes, omdat hun grotere oppervlakte segregatie in de batch helpt voorkomen. Ultrahelder glas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\" style=\"font-size:15px\">Ultrahelder glas is een hoogwaardig materiaal dat bekend staat om zijn extreem hoge lichtdoorlatendheid (\u226591,51 TP3T), zeer lage ijzergehalte (doorgaans 100-150 ppm) en kristalheldere uitstraling. Het wordt ook wel ijzerarm glas of zeer transparant glas genoemd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\" style=\"font-size:15px\">Voor de productie van ultrahelder glas is een strikte combinatie van grondstoffen nodig, waaronder kwartszand, veldspaat, dolomiet, kalksteen, natriumcarbonaat, aluminiumhydroxide, zoutkoek, natriumpyroantimonaat en antimoonoxide. Van deze grondstoffen maakt SiO\u2082 ongeveer 71,0\u201373,01 TP3T uit, en schadelijke onzuiverheden \u2013 met name ijzer \u2013 worden vrijwel uitsluitend via het kwartszand ge\u00efntroduceerd. Daarom is de zuivering van kwartszand primair gericht op het verwijderen van ijzerverontreinigingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\" style=\"font-size:15px\">Wanneer het ijzergehalte een bepaalde drempel overschrijdt, neemt niet alleen de lichtdoorlatendheid aanzienlijk af, maar absorberen ijzeroxiden ook warmtestraling tijdens het smeltproces. Dit cre\u00ebert een steile temperatuurgradi\u00ebnt tussen de bovenste en onderste lagen van het gesmolten glas, waardoor convectie moeilijk wordt en het smelten en raffineren aanzienlijk gecompliceerder wordt. Om deze reden is het ijzergehalte van de silicagrondstof de meest kritische ontwerpparameter. Fotovolta\u00efsch (zonne)glas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Fotovolta\u00efsch glas wordt als buitenste laag van zonnepanelen aangebracht. De functie ervan is om de zonnecellen en elektroden te beschermen door vocht en corrosieve gassen tegen te houden, terwijl het zoveel mogelijk zonlicht doorlaat. In vergelijking met gewoon glas moet PV-glas een lager ijzergehalte, een hogere lichtdoorlatendheid, slagvastheid, corrosiebestendigheid en thermische stabiliteit bieden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twee soorten glas voldoen aan deze eisen: ultrahelder floatglas en ultrahelder gewalst glas met patroon.
